2012 FROEBEL USA National Conference in San Francisco, California, AUG 4/5
New Learning Culture is co-hosting the Froebel Conference
2012.
The German Friedrich Froebel was the inventor
of the kindergarten. His practices, the "occupations and gifts" are still
very healing and educational for children, but unfortunately almost
forgotten. Scott Bultman, founder Froebel USA, and other educators have
been keeping Froebel's legacy alive.
Join us for a hands-on
exploration of integrating the original Froebel Kindergarten method into modern
educational environments. Sessions will cover the full range of Froebel Kindergarten
materials, Occupation materials,
and Mother Plays & Movement Games. Learn how these activities connect with
nature education, teaching design, STEM, literacy assessment, and other standards.
Presenters include Froebel-trained teachers
(each with decades of classroom experience), public and private school teachers
currently integrating the materials in existing programs, and university professors
of art, architecture and education.
This is a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded educators and widen the
network of child-centered education in the S.F. Bay Area.
Registration includes two full days (12-16 sessions), catered lunch each day,
and other amenities.

Movie and discussion: "Race to Nowhere"
"Featuring the heartbreaking stories of young people
across the country who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are
burned out and worried that students aren’t developing the skills they
need, and parents who are trying to do what’s best for their kids, Race
to Nowhere points to the silent epidemic in our schools: cheating has
become commonplace, students have become disengaged, stress-related illness,
depression and burnout are rampant, and young people arrive at college
and the workplace unprepared and uninspired."
