About the Training
Each one of us has unique gifts to offer to children. This training provides you with a
structure to explore and share your unique teaching gifts in authentic,
efficient, respectful ways. In addition to being parents, home-schooling parents, educators, child-care providers, or psychologists, we can become "learning companions" for children. NLC teaching skills can be used in homes,
classrooms, playgrounds, hospitals, and even to co-create alternative
schools based on self-directed, hands-on learning within healthy boundaries set by adults. NLC courses provide the education and network needed to co-create pre/k-12 schools; in fact, an elementary school is being planned in Marin for 2013.
The NLC training provides participants with a wide array of tools relevant to genuine
student-led learning within healthy boundaries. It is based on Maria
Montessori's original writings and Rebeca and Mauricio Wild's child-centered educational
model which is being practiced in alternative schools across Europe for the last
thirty years. Participants will learn how to accompany children on their
path as self-directed learners, enrich the children's natural development with
hands-on learning materials, do non-invasive teaching within prepared environments,
and guide the children's social skill development through healthy boundaries.
The training includes tools
and elements from the field of alternative education (Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio
Emilia, Froebel and more), the sciences of neuro-cardiology, epigenetics,
and social intelligence, attachment theory, play therapy, and mindfulness in
education.
The teacher training is also designed to initiate or deepen a personal journey of exploration of the "sacred
child within". Allowing children to grow up with authenticity inevitably leads adults to greater authenticity in their own lives. Deepened awareness of personal childhood conditioning prevents us from transferring our own wounds onto children. The healing tools offered in this course for adults and children include introductions to iRest
with its founder Richard Miller, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) with Iva Tashlik,
Mindfulness with the founder of the Mindful Education Institute Daniel Rechtschaffen, and other meditation techniques.
Other guest teachers include Ms. Cheryl August (comedian
and healer), Doug Lerch (play therapist and nature educator), Dr. Chris White
(pediatrician and founder od Essential Parenting), Mary Oscategui (greening
environments specialist and founder of the International Maternity Institute).

What participants say
"I am so grateful to be part of the NLC training with Carmen Gamper.
Carmen is truly a talent and gift to children, families, and education.
Her program has awakened my understanding of childhood education, childhood
behavior, my inner child and responsibility. It is one of the best
investments I have made for myself, my daughter, and our future generations."
— Mary Oscategui
Founder International Maternity Institute
"Carmen's training has given me many invaluable insights
into how to support self-guided learning, build trust and mutual
respect with children, and to allow learning to be natural and joyful.
Already I can see the impact on my work with children, and both I
and the children find our time together more relaxed and fulfilling.
Carmen has put together an incredible group of guest instructors
as well, and I can't wait to start implementing what I learned from
Richard Miller about iRest For Kids."
— Noelle Marquis
Nature Educator
"Thank you, Carmen, for another amazing course. I was driving to class this morning just lightened in the heart by the prospect of spending time on enlightening ourselves and healing our sacred children within and without."
